Wearing kimonos to dinner

Staying at minshuku and ryoken is a wonderful expstuckerience. Our first stay was in Tsumago at the lovely Minshuku Koshinzuka where only another two couples were staying. Our host sang a traditional folk song and told us interesting things about Japan. The full length photos are from here and one of the fire with the fish on the rope to stop fire from breaking out.

The second time was the Nishi-itoya Sanso hotel in Kamikochi on a lot bigger scale. We also used a communal bath for the first time and it was like having a jacuzzi in a ski resort but without the bubbles.

Breakfast looked very similar to dinner! But we   with the Japanese breakfast even when given the option of a Western one.
