When we were in Takayama (Sat 17th) we followed advice on Tripadviser for dinner and visited Heianraku

As recommended their meatballs were amazing (Rich is still talking about them) as was their vegetarian food, which is not so common in Japan. Their veggie gyoza and tofu steak (topped with a tasty omelette) on rice was lovely. They even had veggie soya sauce.
After that we venture into a pub near the station called Origin, this time recommended by Lonely Planet. It was a bit smoky and I enjoyed their sake tasting set but it doesn't beat the fine Japanese beer here.
