Gion by night

We fared a lot better at finding a restaurant this time. On one of the tree lined streets of Gion we stumbled upon Tanclow. We chose to sit at the bar so we could see the chef at work again. This time it was a first for drinking Japanese sparkling wine - the traditional wine was recommended as being most like champagne and it was so lovely I just had to have another glass! http://www.tambawine.co.jp/tanclow_en.html

The Spanish mackerel sashimi had been seared and was the tastiest out of the three (also incl salmon and squid). My sea bass was amazing and although it was in a buttery sauce it wasn't French at all in style. Rich opted for the Wagyu beef and it beat the last steak he had at Hawksmoor. Soy sauce mixed with red wine makes a fab meat sauce (it tastes a little like port).

We wandered around more of Gion and looked round the Yasaka shrine - another brightly decorated one. To return tomorrow for an explore in daylight.
