Chion-in temple and kamigamo shrine

Sunday morning was a good time to visit the Chion-in temple as there were not too many coaches at 9am and locals were there for the 'service'. We saw another bride going in for a marriage service. We spoke to a family where mum had studied in England and lived in Egham and her eldest boy wanted to talk to us in English and have a photograph taken with us :-)

Unfortunately the main hall was all covered up due to renovation but we were able to wander inside and walk on the nightingale floors. We got a photo of the bell which is the biggest in Japan.

After a little more shopping we caught a bus up north to the Kamigamo temple. This was more quaint than the others we've seen and there were two weddings on here. There were lots ff pictures of horses here - the horse race in Japan is said to originate from this shrine. See the photo with the sand cones.

We walked back to the city along the river and did some people and wildlife watching along the way.
