Wandering in Kyoto

We had a more low key day today. No getting up early or racing around places on transport. We had a lovely breakfast in Shinshindo, the boulangerie below the Royal Park Hotel. Rich liked the bottomless bread basket so much we might be going back there again. Their raisin bread was yummy.

So today we used our feet and did some shopping, seeking out craft centres and taking in temples and parks on the way. The mosquitoes seem to like me here so I acquired a few more bites on the limbs that were bite free until now.

We excelled ourselves for eating the most new things in one night - half of which we don't know what they were but they came from the sea! We ate at Anji, an Izakawa which the hotel had recommended.

The sashimi was yummy. The grilled fish we were expecting came raw with a bbq! We stared at it in alarm at the thought of cooking our own seafood (oh no food poisoning). But we didn't have to worry, they cooked it for us. The seafood in shells was lovely but the dried fish and squid were a little to much for our taste buds! You can see the scallop and the conch shell on the BBQ. Rich had tasty duck then we topped it off with tempura (very welcome after all the fish) and rolled back to our hotel.
